You've invested countless hours piecing together your quilt top, carefully selecting fabrics and arranging patterns that tell a story. Long arm quilting is where that creation becomes a finished heirloom—the quilting stitch adds texture, dimension, and the structural integrity that transforms layers of fabric into something meant to be used, washed, and loved for generations.
Our Quilting Options
We offer several approaches to finishing your quilt, from simple and economical to fully customized designs that showcase your piecing work.
Edge-to-Edge Quilting
Edge-to-edge quilting applies a continuous design across the entire surface of your quilt, moving through blocks, sashing, and borders without interruption. This is our most popular option and works beautifully on most quilts. Our standard edge-to-edge design is a classic meander pattern—a flowing, random stitch that wanders across your quilt without crossing itself. The meander creates subtle texture that complements rather than competes with your piecing, and it's particularly well-suited for busy prints or quilts where you want the fabric to remain the star.
Beyond our standard meander, we offer a library of edge-to-edge patterns including swirls, loops, feathers, florals, geometric designs, and themed patterns for holidays, baby quilts, or masculine projects. During your consultation, we can look through options together to find a design that complements your quilt's style.
Semi-Custom Quilting
Semi-custom quilting offers a middle ground between edge-to-edge and full custom work. This approach allows us to treat different areas of your quilt with different designs—for example, a decorative border pattern paired with an edge-to-edge design in the body, or highlighting specific blocks while using a simpler pattern in the background. If you have a quilt with special focal points that deserve emphasis, semi-custom quilting is an excellent way to showcase them.
Custom Quilting
For quilts that deserve extra attention, custom quilting honors the structure of your piecing by placing specific motifs in blocks, complementary patterns in sashing, and distinct designs in borders. Rather than a single pattern moving edge to edge, custom work treats each area of your quilt individually. This approach makes your piecing pop and transforms the quilting itself into an additional design element.
Heirloom and Show Quality Quilting
For competition quilts or pieces destined to become treasured family heirlooms, we offer our highest level of quilting. These projects receive meticulous attention to design, density, and execution. Heirloom work is priced by the job based on complexity and time required.
Basting Service
For quilters who prefer to do their own hand quilting, we offer basting service. We'll load your quilt sandwich onto the long arm frame and stitch the layers together with large, easy-to-remove stitches, eliminating the need to crawl on the floor with pins or spray baste.
Our Process
Every project begins with a conversation about your vision. We'll discuss your quilt's size, the look you're hoping to achieve, and which quilting approach best suits your piece. If you're not sure what you want, that's perfectly fine—we're happy to recommend a design and thread color that will complement your fabric choices and enhance your piecing work.
Once we've settled on a direction, we'll prepare your quilt top and backing for the machine. If your backing fabric needs to be pieced together, we can handle that for you. We stock batting including Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 cotton-poly blend and 80/20 washable wool. Other batting types are available and priced by the job. You're welcome to provide your own batting if you have a preference.
After quilting, we trim your quilt at no additional charge so it's squared up and ready for binding. We offer machine binding service to give your quilt a clean, durable edge, or we can return it to you for hand binding if you prefer that finishing touch yourself.
Pricing
Quilting Services
Edge-to-edge quilting starts at $0.03 per square inch. To estimate your cost, multiply your quilt's length by its width in inches.
Example: A 60" x 80" quilt = 4,800 square inches x $0.03 = $144
Minimum charge: $85 — Baby quilts, table runners, and other small projects require the same setup time as larger quilts.

Turnaround Time
Our typical turnaround is approximately six weeks from the time we receive your quilt. Custom and heirloom projects may take longer depending on complexity. We'll provide an estimated completion date during your consultation.
Preparing Your Quilt
To ensure the best results, please prepare your quilt with the following guidelines:
Your backing fabric should be at least 6 inches larger than your quilt top on all sides (12 inches total added to both width and length). This extra fabric allows us to properly load your quilt onto the machine frame. If your backing is pieced, use a half-inch seam allowance and press seams open. Remove all selvage edges from pieced backings—the tight weave of selvage can cause puckering during quilting.
Give your quilt top a final press before bringing it in, and trim any loose threads from the back. Dark threads left underneath light fabrics may show through once the quilting compresses the layers together. If your quilt top has seams along the outer edges, a line of stay-stitching about an eighth of an inch from the edge will prevent them from pulling apart during quilting—your binding will cover these stitches.
If you're supplying your own batting, it should be at least 6 inches larger than your quilt top on all sides and suitable for machine quilting. Please do not pin or baste the layers together—we need them separate to load onto the frame. Add any embellishments like buttons, beads, or charms after quilting is complete, as these can interfere with the machine's sewing foot.
Thread Selection
Thread color can blend into your quilt for a subtle texture or contrast for a bolder statement. Neutral colors like white, cream, gray, or tan work well for blending across multiple fabric colors. If your quilt has a dominant color family, matching thread creates cohesion. For quilts where you want the quilting design to stand out, a contrasting thread makes the pattern visible and becomes part of the quilt's visual impact. We'll discuss thread options during your consultation.
